What is coaching?
First and foremost: it ain’t easy.
This shit is hard my friend.
“It was unexpectedly emotional.” “This is HARD.” “I feel a little beat up.” These are pieces of actual conversations I’ve had with clients. And look hon, I get it. I’ve worked with a coach myself (several, actually) and I KNOW how deep and personal and intense coaching can be. Which is exactly why the first session is free. If we don’t have a good connection, coaching isn’t going to work for you. I’d rather refer you to someone in my network than have you end up with ineffective coaching.
Second: it ain’t therapy. Here’s the deal - I’m a certified life coach. That means I did my initial training through a program that teaches a specific model of coaching. I don’t have a degree in psychology. I can’t, and won’t, diagnose you. I certainly don’t do prescriptions. A friend and fellow coach said it better than anyone else: If a therapist is the highly trained, specialized surgeon, we coaches are more like your personal trainer. What we do can help a whole lotta people, but some stuff is just too big or too deep for us to be able to be genuinely helpful.
